On September the 6th-9th 2013 the 60th anniversary of the UNESCO ASPnet associated schools programme was held in Korea. Representatives from over 160 schools around the world come and discuss their UNESCO related practices. The National Coordinators from a selection of the countries spoke and presented some of the challenges they faced as well as looking at the successes.
Overall the schools decided that we wanted to raise awareness in each of our countries for the things that UNESCO does. We also wanted the network to become more student led and give children the chance to connect and see what other schools around the world were doing. We wanted to do this through technologies such as apps, Skype and video conferencing.
The UNESCO website states the main aims were to
• To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Network and pay tribute to participating ASPnet National Coordinators, principals, teachers and students• To assess the key achievements of the Network at each level: school, national, regional and international• To discuss new approaches for developing a Strategy and Plan of Action (2014-2021) for promoting global citizenship based on peace and sustainable development.
